Delivering True Impact

We assess True Impact with these questions:  Was our expertise unique?  Were we the difference between ordinary and extraordinary?  Did we enable long term success?  This is what we call "True Impact"...  this is our passion.

True Impact is very difficult to measure.  We only have impressions we leave behind to study its affect. What follows is a sample of genuine statements made by people we have worked with.  They come from project sponsors, co-workers, peers, subordinates, managers, and external groups.

Our projects are complex endeavors.  At times, they are stressful and contentious.  Naturally, not all communication is as rewarding as what you find here, but comments such as these are the fuel of our passion... and echo our True Impact.

From a Senior Team Member

Hi Doug,

It was wonderful working with you far last two years. I wish I should have worked with you as intern/fresher, when one is very receptive. I am very happy that I got chance to work with you and see what Technical Leadership really means. I hope that I get to work with you in future and learn few more things. Let me take this moment to express my gratitude for all the support , guidance and encouragement you gave me.

From a CTO / Project Sponsor

Hi, Doug –

I got your note this morning and I, too, am sorry I was not available to visit and thank you personally for all your good work for [our company].  The quality of the thought and deliverables that [Strong Point has] produced is very high indeed, and I know we will grow a lot as a company as we work to incorporate them into our products and our methods.  And, as you know, we still have some major components to design and build before we achieve our vision, so I can easily imagine future scenarios that will have us working together again.

Very best wishes to you, in work and in life!

From a Project Manager

Steve draws from a vast range of technical knowledge to develop superior technical solutions quickly and efficiently.  A project with Steve as the Architect is practically guaranteed to be successful.  I would welcome the opportunity to work with Steve again.

From a developer on another team

Hi Doug,

Friday will be my last day with [the company]. I am leaving for a permanent position.

It has been an honor to work/learn from you. You are certainly the most inspiring/experienced/hands-on architect I've been working with so far.

Thanks a lot for all the help you gave me.

Best wishes,

[Developer]

From a participant in the Client's Summer Intern program

Hi,

I want to thank you guys for all the advice and guidance I got through out the summer and this semester. In all the interviews I spoke about what I learnt from the summer internship.

I mentioned how I was given programming tips form Dave Sweeny, and how he was constantly there to review my code. I remembered the Page Life Cycle, very common interview question.

I also mentioned about Doug's role. In all interviews I stated it as my dream job. I want to steer my career so that I see myself, 10-12 years from now, doing what Doug does. Working with Doug, I learnt how to make a code as flexible and re-usable as possible, covering all the possibilities. He was being patient with me. :-)

...

I am offered a job from two projects at Microsoft: MS Project and Sharepoint. Total eight teams want me to join them. I am very happy.

Thanks again for giving a head start to my career. I hope I can do the same to some intern some day.

From a Senior Architect - Years After the Project Ended

hi Doug
[...] I heard your show was back in town. I had given your "Notes from the Author" from the [Product User] Manual [you wrote several years ago] to a manager the other day after having some discussion about what is in [the product you architected].  I've been looking at [the product because] they are trying to move [the functionality] to a new [vendor] product. The more I look at [what you created] and understand the more impressed I am by what is in there and how it was put together.
Definitely a good achievement - in my opinion. You have probably long forgotten about it by now, but still worth appreciating!
Thought I would pass that on.

From a Project Manager

[Dave's] dedication to quality and work ethic were contributing success factors to [the project].  Most importantly, Dave possesses the rare combination of technical expertise and business acumen.  His knowledge of the business and ability to communicate effectively at all levels...were an asset to the entire team.    Every PM should be fortunate enough to work with Dave on at least one of their projects.

From a Client Architect

Steve [...] is "out-of-this-world" good.  He operates on a completely different level. [...]

From the Director of Data Services

[Dave, ...] I think you're an Ace.  You're a heavy-hitter.[...]

From the Project Sponsor

You know what Doug? You get it. You hear me/my business case and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate that!

From a VP of Project Management

Steve carefully crafted the most complicated technical solutions, keeping in mind potential future needs and ease of deployment.  He would often take on very difficult processes..and [resolve them] in a quarter of the time the majority of developers are able to solve them.  His work will have a lasting and positive effect on our business.

From a Junior Tester

Hi Doug,
You were such a nice person to work with.
I wish you all the best. Thanks again in helping me out with email testing.

From a Project Manager

[Dave] Seriously, it really has been great working with you.  I know it is said a lot to departing team members and sometimes loses its meaning.  Thanks for making my job so much easier in so many ways.  I especially appreciate your patience with me and support when we had to proceed so many times down the less deisred path.  You are truly a rare talent and I have learned a lot from you.

From a Project Manager from a Collaborative Team

Doug,
[...] Thanks for everything Doug.  [The project] wouldn't have gone in without your tremendous efforts.  Putting up with [my team] and I is worthy of a medal.  I'll buy you a beer Wed.   [...]

From a Fellow Architect

Hi Doug,
It was good working with you. One thing I want to say Is I admire your energy and motivation. May be I give that Credit to the jug of coffee.   :)
Good luck.

From the VP of Product Management

Dave's work ethic, attention to detail, leadership, and ability to bridge the gap between technology and business needs were a key component to our success.  Dave gave us a real sense of responsibility and ownership.  If he said he was going to get a Herculean task completed by a difficult timeline, it was always done on time with the highest of quality.

From a Developer

Dave [...] Thanks for all you've done for me.  I've learned far more on [your team] than anywhere else I've ever been.
