First, me
I consider myself to be an application development generalist.  This is true in several dimensions:
1. The technologies I work with
2. The roles I play
3. The industries I have experience in
4. The approaches I use to solve a problem
I stress this point first to make it clear that I am not a specialist – barring that I specialize in being a generalist.  Although I have deep knowledge in many areas, and can hold my own in nearly any technical conversation – my knowledge is sometimes not as deep as some of the great experts in any single field.

Next, my point
I’m starting this blog to record and communicate my position on various topics I find interesting.  The first topics I have in mind are about situations and disagreements from my professional experience.  Some of these situations have invoked "religious" responses on various projects.  In researching these issues, I often find that the app-dev community itself is often divided along religious lines.

Finally, the approach
My intension is to discuss these contentious points reasonably and objectively.  By doing so, I hope to deepen my own understanding and provide a reference I can use when I encounter these issues.  As anybody who has worked with me knows, I do have opinions.  I will not attempt to hide these opinions from my blog, but I do hope to present a full and honest picture of the problem along the way.

Generalists are "Big-Picture" people, but we sometimes fight these "battles" over minutia.  These small details are most often the fabric for larger applications.  People feel strongly about them because they can have profound impact on the final product.  Thankfully, people are invested enough in the final product to care about these details.
